What should I do if the book I want is checked out?
When you'd like to request an item that's already checked out by another patron, you have two options.
The first option is to place a local hold on the item, to put yourself on the waitlist for when it is returned. Your other option is to request to receive a copy of the item via interlibrary loan from another library.
Option 1: Place a Hold
To place a hold request, locate the item in Scholar OneSearch and open up the "Location and Status" tab to see more information and display request options:
If you are not already signed in, select "sign-in for more options." Note that at the bottom of the record, under "status," you can see how long the item is checked out for:

Selecting the Request button on the left places a hold on Snell's copy of the book. Fill out the request details (shown below) and click "Request" to complete your hold. You will be notified via email when the book is ready for you:
You can view, edit, and cancel local requests using MyAccount.
Option 2: Interlibrary Loan
If you would prefer to place an interlibrary loan request, selecting Request from another library, on the right, links you to the item's record in Worldcat, the search catalog we use to find books in nearby libraries.
From the Worldcat record, locate and select the "Request Item through ILLiad" button:
ILLiad is the system we use to borrow books from other libraries. Clicking the request button will take you to the ILLiad sign-in page [use your myNEU credentials for access] and, once you are signed in, help you submit a request. If it's your first time using ILLiad, you will have to fill out the registration information.
