Color is not read by screen readers and can be inaccessible to people with color blindness or low vision. Ensure that color is never the only way that information is presented or conveyed.

Examples:

Do

  • (optionally) use color to help signed users navigate large or complex data presentations as long as the information is also shown another way. For example, a heat map and the corresponding data tables.

Don't

  • use color as the only way information is communicated.
