Three Flashes, Pause, Stop & Hide
Answer
Quickly flashing or blinking items can be seizure triggers for photosensitive individuals. Moving, scrolling, and auto-updating content can be distracting or disorienting. Alter or remove any content that: flashes more than three times in a second or moves, or blinks or scrolls for more than 5 seconds.
To meet A levels of conformance, flashes can be below general flash and red flash thresholds, (see 2.3.1), but as a best practice please avoid all flashing.
Examples:
Do
- consider avoiding content that moves, blinks, scrolls or auto-updates altogether.
- include a way to pause, stop or hide any included moving, blinking, scrolling or auto updating content.
Don't
- include any content that flashes more than three times in a second or moves, blinks or scrolls for more than 5 seconds.
