Images of Text
Answer
Avoid including image files (.jpg, .png, .gif, etc.) in your projects that are solely or are primarily text. Often, this is done to preserve a specific visual component to the text, but it is not accessible. For example, many infographics would fail this success criteria. While alt text can be included, long alt text can be difficult to read and in some cases is truncated.
Examples:
Do
- use formatting (html or css) to change the visual appearance of text as needed in your project
- format infographics as PDFs or other documents with a text layer when a Word document is not appropriate
- Include logos with alt text, even when they include text in the image (an exception to this rule)
Don't
- include images of text
