Reading Level
Answer
Content should be written clearly, concisely and to be understood by as many people as possible. Use a reading level editor to assess the reading grade level of your writing. Whenever possible, aim for a reading level at the lower secondary level (grades 7-9 in the U.S) or below. This may not always be possible due to advanced subjects or terms.
There's more to readability than the reading level of your text. The organization of information using headings, reasonably sized paragraphs, high color contrast, and white space can all contribute to how easy your content is to read.
Examples:
Do
- copy and paste text drafts and video / audio scripts into a reading level editor and edit for clarity.
- use Word's reading level report.
- write in the most clear, concise way possible to effectively communicate your content.
- use headings to organize your text.
- share one topic per paragraph.
- ensure high color contrast.
