Question: What is WorldCat?

As its name implies, WorldCat is a global library catalog.  It includes libraries in over 80 countries, Northeastern's libraries among them.  It tends to represent North American libraries better than other parts of the world.

You can search WorldCat for a specific item, like a book or newspaper, or you can search a subject. You'll find books, music, video, periodical titles, and much more.  (If you are looking for archival collections rather than individual items and published works, however, ArchiveGrid may be a better choice.)  You can see what libraries have the item, and sort by location to find a library located near you.  WorldCat can be helpful in locating obscure materials and in verifying your citations.

Current Northeastern students, faculty, or staff located on the Boston campus may also request printed books directly from WorldCat using the "Request item through ILLiad" button. Northeastern students, faculty, and staff at other campuses, please see library information for your campus here.
