How do I use HathiTrust?

Answer

Access

Due to international copyright restrictions, users outside the United States, including Northeastern students, faculty, and staff in Canada and Northeastern University London, do not have access to HathiTrust through the Northeastern Library.

.

Online reading

Northeastern students may read HathiTrust that are either in the public domain or having appropriate Creative commons licenses.  Logged-in users may also download PDF versions (epub, text, jpeg and zip files also), and create personal and shareable collections.

Log in at the top right by selecting "Northeastern University " as your partner institution.

HathiTrust institution selection screen

Use your Northeastern login and password when prompted for downloading and personal collection options.

Users with Disabilities

Users who are blind or print disabled can request copies of copyrighted books, which are listed as "limited (search-only)" in the HathiTrust Digital Library Collection.

Downloads

Public domain works (chiefly publications and materials published over 95 years ago, or made available under Creative Commons license) are available for downloading.  Other materials may be read online in your browser, or may be searchable but have limited access.

Text mining

HathiTrust is available for text and data mining upon request and registration.  See our text mining guide for links and information.
