Persistent identifiers (PIDs), also known as digital persistent identifiers (DPIs), are long-lasting references to resources that allow you to reliably identify and locate these resources.

'Resources' can mean objects (publications, datasets, software), entities (like organizations), or people. DOIs are a common PID used for objects, and ORCIDs are a common PID used to identify people.

When used regularly, PIDs can help connect researchers to their work, affiliations, and collaborators throughout their careers.
